What is Marketing Mix Modeling?
Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) identifies the incremental sales and margin driven by each marketing activity and uses that information to elucidate the return on investment (ROI) for each marketing investment. MMM can then be used to recommend changes to the media mix to reach higher level of sales and margin more effectively.
How does Marketing Mix Modeling work?
MMM decomposes sales time series into different factors driving those sales. Usually marketing activities are one of the most significant drivers, but its important to also account for seasonality in base demand, as well as different external factors, such as status of the economy, competitor activities and weather.
What is a limitation of Marketing Mix Modeling?
The central challenge in MMM is accounting for all the different data sources available, often in various formats and of different quality. To handle the uncertainty and hierarchical nature of the data, a Bayesian approach is often necessary.
